Description

This course introduces adults to the fundamentals of sewing in a structured and supportive environment. Designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, participants will learn essential machine operations, basic stitching techniques, and best practices for preparing and handling fabric. Students will learn the parts of a sewing machine and their functions and how to thread a machine and wind a bobbin. There will be opportunities to practice fundamental stitches and seam finishes and develop skills in measuring, cutting, and preparing fabric. Throughout this course, participants will gain confidence operating a sewing machine, and learn how to troubleshoot and acquire techniques essential for both practical and creative projects. Instruction will include demonstrations and practice to ensure all learners are supported every step of the way.  The course culminates in a hands-on project where each student will create a custom tote bag, reinforcing their new skills through practical application.  Please note: Patterns will be provided by the instructor as part of this course. Participants are expected to bring their own sewing machine in good working order and come prepared with the required listed supplies. Fabric can be purchased on site if needed.
