Long Island Sound is a vibrant, million-acre classroom along the Connecticut shoreline. This immersive four-session course at the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center offers participants a fascinating exploration of the diverse life thriving in these waters. Through hands-on activities, participants will examine the tiniest organisms in the Sound by collecting plankton samples and studying them under microscopes. They will also use nets and waders to capture and study marine animals, gaining firsthand knowledge of the ecosystem. The class includes a unique opportunity to explore evolution through the dissection of two important, closely related organisms—the oyster and the squid. Additionally, participants will interact with and discover some of the lesser-known creatures that inhabit the depths of Long Island Sound in this engaging, interactive experience.
