During the initial session, students will learn the ASL history (including “where did ASL come from?”), the Alphabet, Numbers, and Animal signs.Family and conversational sign language follow in the next few sessions as well as Weather, Holiday and Food signs. By the end of the course (6 weeks) students are able to have a conversation using over 75+ ASL signs! Why ASL? This language skill will promote communication, understanding and a greater awareness and sensitivity between the hearing and the deaf communities. Students will develop an appreciation for Deaf Culture as a result of being exposed to ASL. This will make a significant impact on inclusivity and respect for individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.
